Week of Nov 9 — Nov 15
- What did you do this past week?
This past week my team and I took a much-needed break to recharge our batteries for finishing out our project. In the meantime, I have been going through our code and making tiny fixes here and there to remove some of the conflicts it has with Larry’s “points off” guide and generally making it more readable. Most of the team is pretty burnt out from working as we have been a man down from the start of this semester so we are really milking out our little break. Aside from work on our SWE deliverable, I have been working on all of my other large projects for other classes (unfortunately I have my end of term iOS app, upcoming network security homework, and a final project in contemporary issues in cs to finish alongside this). I would complain more but for some reason, I am managing my time pretty well so all the deliverables aren’t all that bad.
- What’s in your way?
Nothing too much at the moment. I don’t really know where to start on the project visualizations but the time to learn the framework can’t be too bad. I am also not the best at using react in the intended ways, but I have two extremely helpful teammates to guide me through my visualization making process.
- What will you do next week?
All of next week my team and I will be focused on making the visualizations for our project and creating a presentation. We all have a lot of work to do in other classes so we are really excited that we can film our presentation and just be done with it!
- If you read it, what did you think of The New Methodology?
I didn’t read this paper, but I have enjoyed all the other papers before it. If there is anything I have learned, its that abstraction trumps all.
- What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)
I have done a good bit of SQL in past internship projects so I wouldn’t say it's all that new for me. That being said I never really understood all of what I was doing so it’s nice to get a deep dive into the uses and importance of SQL. I will certainly need to use it in the industry so this refresher course on it is super helpful
- What made you happy this week?
My brother and I went to play some paintball! We had a great time and was far less painful than I remembered as a kid.
- What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
Because a lot of us will be making slide decks soon for our projects, I would recommend using Canva. It’s a super simple ppt design platform with a bunch of great starting templates for showcasing your presentation.
